Japan Desk
Our relationships with Japanese companies goes back to the early
1950s when, at the recommendation of a long-standing client of the
firm, a major Japanese bank requested us to represent them on its
return to London after the withdrawl during the World War II. Our
Japanese practice has since expanded substantially. We act for
approximately 250 Japanese corporate clients and we believe our
Japanese practice is one of the largest among UK law
firms.
We advise our Japanese clients on a wide range of issues, in
particular projects, project and asset financing, joint ventures
with UK and other European counterparties and mergers and
acquisitions as well as employment and immigration
matters. We are experienced in working with Japanese
companies on complex legal issues and are well resourced to ensure
that any English concepts which do not have a direct equivalent
under Japanese law are explained so that they can be easily
understood by the Japanese expatriate staff in the UK and Europe as
well as their colleagues in Japan.
