Legal careers
We pride ourselves that FFW is a friendly place to work. A
genuine open-door policy operates throughout all levels of the
firm.
You will frequently have direct client contact from an early
stage in your career and enjoy a degree of autonomy, while also
having the support in place to help when required.
We are keen for our fee earners to work with a number of
partners in their relevant practice area to help clients achieve
their aims. Working this way, we believe, gives the opportunity for
you to observe different approaches, while observing a broad
spectrum of work.
As an innovative firm, we view involvement in business
development and marketing as an essential part of our fee earners’
development. It is actively encouraged from day one.
We have a comprehensive Learning and Development programme,
equipping you with much more than just CPD compliance. Having a
broad-based, international practice also results in an impressive
coverage of legal topics.
As you would expect from a firm our size, we also offer
excellent support in terms of our Business Services capabilities, whether that be
from expert teams in Marketing or Library & Information
Services, to assistance with overnight document production.
Recruitment process
We take recruitment very seriously and understand that it is a
two-way decision.
At the same time, we try to keep the interview process as swift
as possible and ensure that you have constructive feedback.
Typically, at first interview, you will meet a couple of
partners from your proposed practice area. This can help you
understand more about the team, the way we work, the type of work
and our client base. We use this first meeting to develop a
good general understanding of your experience, skills, expectations
and ambitions.
If both parties wish to proceed, you might meet a further two
partners in the team and, potentially, undertake a brief technical
exercise.
After this stage, we try to arrange for candidates to
meet other fee earners on an informal basis.
Joining us
If you decide to come on board, your first week is spent on our
comprehensive firm-wide induction program designed to provide the
necessary starting blocks upon which to build your knowledge of the
firm and how it operates.
We run an informal mentoring scheme for new employees which
provides great support.
Paralegals
If you are a hard-working, pro-active, ambitious paralegal, we
can offer you stimulating work with immediate responsibility and
excellent training and development opportunities.
Our paralegals typically get involved in a variety of roles:
attending client meetings, managing their own files, drafting
documents, interviewing witnesses, conducting case research and
liaising with court.
Paralegals have the opportunity to work alongside trainees,
qualified lawyers and partners and are highly-valued members of
both the teams they work for and the firm as a whole.
