FFW advises Popworld on Channel 4 and UBC Media investments
14 October 2004
City law firm Field Fisher Waterhouse advised Popworld Ltd
on investments by 4 Ventures, the commercial arm of Channel
4, and independent radio producer UBC Media Group.
Multi-media music brand Popworld was set up by former Spice
girls manager Simon Fuller and Robert Dodds. It owns and
controls Popworld, Channel 4’s flagship music-based programme
broadcast on Sunday mornings, one of the few music shows with a
growing audience. Popworld also operates the world’s biggest
pop website which has half a million members.
Amanda Bannister, Popworld’s Head of Commercial Development and
Business Affairs says:
“In only four years we have created one of the UK’s strongest music
media brands. We believe it has enormous potential. Deepening
our relationship with 4 Ventures will help us consolidate our
market-leading position on TV, creating programme spin-offs and
televised music events. Through our partnership with UBC
Media Group we will be extending our presence onto national
radio.
This is the first time we have instructed FFW. We needed a
corporate team who know the media sector inside-out. Andrew
and his team were great – this wouldn’t have happened without their
professionalism, patience and
humour.”
The FFW team comprised corporate partner Andrew Blankfield and
solicitors Laurence Lumb and Sophie Murray.
