Field Fisher Waterhouse appoints leading IP litigator

30 July 2007

Field Fisher Waterhouse LLP announces today the appointment of leading IP partner, Hamish Porter, who joins the firm from Addleshaw Goddard.

Hamish specialises in IP litigation with a particular emphasis on copyright, trade marks and passing off.  His practice has a focus on the media, entertainment, sport and luxury goods industries and he has a strong client base from the film, music and sports industries. Hamish's recent cases include British Horseracing Board V William Hill Organisation Ltd, the first case to come to trial under the Database Directive, and L'Oreal v Bellure NV a trade mark and passing off case involving smell-alike fragrances.

This latest appointment follows on from a number of recent partner hires across Field Fisher Waterhouse’s European offices, including those of corporate partner, Marie Evrard (Brussels) and IP partner Alexandra von Bismark (Hamburg) and Ian Craig, who joined the IP litigation team in London last year from Dorsey & Whitney, to boost the firm’s expertise in patent litigation. The appointment will bring the total number of partners at Field Fisher Waterhouse to 104.

Hamish joins one of the largest intellectual property practices in Europe, with 15 partners and a total of 49 lawyers who specialise in IP.  His appointment will further boost the practice’s IP litigation capability as well as bringing further expertise to the firm’s cross-departmental media group.

Hamish Porter said: “I was keen to join a firm with IP at the forefront of its strategy, so Field Fisher Waterhouse was the ideal choice for me.  I am very pleased to be joining the firm at such a notable period of European growth.”

Nick Rose, Head of IP and Technology Litigation at Field Fisher Waterhouse said:  “We are delighted that Hamish has chosen to join us.  He will significantly boost our IP practice, in particular the work that we are doing in the media and entertainment sectors.”
