Field Fisher Waterhouse boosts Real Estate Group with planning and regeneration team
09 April 2009
Field Fisher Waterhouse LLP announces today the appointment of a
three-lawyer planning and regeneration team headed by partner Karen
Cooksley. Karen will join the firm in April from Bevan
Brittan, as Head of Planning and Regeneration, along with partner
Colette McCormack and senior associate Lindsay Garratt.
Karen has over 20 years experience in planning and regeneration
law and has advised on a wide variety of high profile development
and infrastructure projects. She specialises in the delivery
of major residential and mixed use urban regeneration schemes,
hotel and leisure developments and environmental and energy matters
including Environmental Impact Assessments and planning
applications for renewable energy projects. Her clients
include multinational corporations, developers, public authorities
and project companies.
Karen is particularly experienced in devising strategies for
obtaining planning and environmental consents for complex and
controversial projects.
Colette McCormack advises on a wide range of regeneration and
sustainable development work. She has been involved in a number of
large scale mixed use developments on previously developed land
including redundant RAF sites as well as major urban city
locations. She acts for a number of major house builders and
developers as well as public sector organisations. She has
particular expertise in Compulsory Purchase Order issues and the
interrelation with the planning process and environmental
regulation.
Karen was Head of Planning and Regeneration at Bevan Brittan and
prior to joining in 2004 headed the Public Law practice at Masons
(now Pinsent Masons). Colette McCormack was also previously at
Masons. She became partner at Bevan Brittan in 2006.
The appointments will be a significant boost to Field Fisher
Waterhouse’s Real Estate Group, building
on the firm’s existing planning and regeneration
expertise. This follows on from the appointment last year of
property litigation partner Lesley Webber whose expertise includes
advising on planning related disputes.
Paul Houston, Head of Real Estate at Field Fisher Waterhouse, said:
“Karen and her team have an excellent reputation in the industry
and we have known them for many years. Building on our
existing planning and regeneration capability is key to our long
term growth strategy and Karen, Colette and Lindsay’s
expertise in this area will be a considerable asset. The teams’
sector expertise also has excellent synergies with the firm’s
strengths in development, hotel and leisure, energy and the public
sector.”
Karen Cooksley said: “Myself, Colette and Lindsay are delighted to
be joining Field Fisher Waterhouse. The firm has excellent
credentials across a wide range of public and private sector work,
including a good reputation in both the hotel and leisure,
development and energy sectors. This is an excellent opportunity
for us to build on the firm’s existing strengths and grow the
planning and regeneration capability.”
