Field Fisher Waterhouse appoints new head of media
29 January 2009
Field Fisher Waterhouse LLP announces today the appointment of
leading media and communications partner Tim Johnson who will join
the firm next month from SJ Berwin, where he has been a partner
since 1995. Tim will head up the firm’s cross-practice
Media Group.
Tim advises on all aspects of media and communications law, with
a particular emphasis on film and television financing,
distribution and production and satellite communications. His
practice also encompasses digital media and on-line
exploitation. He is particularly recognised for the work that
he does in relation to complex media asset financing
structures, film and television production and distribution
transactions and international co-productions.
Tim will sit within the firm’s Commercial IP practice and will
head up the Media Group which draws
expertise from across the firm, advising clients such as MTV, the
BBC, Liberty Global and Twentieth Century Fox. The
appointment of Tim closely follows that of tax partner Derek Hill
who joined earlier this month from Herbert Smith and also has
significant expertise in the media sector.
Mark Abell, Head of IP at Field Fisher
Waterhouse, said: “Tim is highly regarded throughout the industry
for his media expertise and we are delighted that he has chosen to
join us and head up our Media Group which
is currently thriving despite the economic environment. The
firm has a leading media practice, drawing expertise from our
corporate, IP, technology and regulatory practices and Tim’s
expertise will be a significant asset. It is our aim to
become the leading European media practice so his appointment makes
perfect sense strategically.”
Tim Johnson said: “Heading up a media practice with
excellent credentials, lawyers who want to be engaged with the
media sector and long-standing depth in its media client base, is
an exciting opportunity. I firmly believe that Field Fisher
Waterhouse's existing capability, coupled with the extra dimension
I can add in areas such as media asset financing, is a compelling
platform from which to develop a first rate European media
practice.”
