Field Fisher Waterhouse advises on Gourmet Gulf India expansion
10 March 2010
Field Fisher Waterhouse LLP has advised
Gourmet Gulf Company on a franchising deal that will see the
retailer expand into India. Gourmet Gulf is a pioneering UAE-based
food and beverage retail company operating top-tier brands.
The firm advised Gourmet Gulf on a franchised
joint venture with JSM Corporation called GSMGCC India Pvt Ltd.
GSMGCC plans to launch 17 new outlets of California Pizza Kitchen
in India and the Middle East in 2010, with India as main focus.
Earlier last year, Field Fisher Waterhouse also
advised on the acquisition of the development rights for California
Pizza Kitchen in the UAE for Gourmet Gulf. These deals reflect the
strength of Field Fisher Waterhouse’s Franchising Group, which
has significant international capability and has advised a large
portfolio of corporates on global roll-outs including Hamleys,
Mamas & Papas, River Island, Monsoon, Arcadia and
Reiss.
Joint head of Franchising
and Licensing Mark Abell led on the
deal.
Mark
Abell said: “Franchising continues to be a popular option for those
looking to expand internationally. Over the last twelve months,
despite the adverse economic conditions – or perhaps because of
them – Field Fisher Waterhouse has advised a good number of big
name brands on their expansion in India and the Middle East and we
are delighted to have advised them on their ambitious expansion
plans.”
The in-house legal department advised JSM
Corporation.
