Field Fisher Waterhouse hires five lawyer-strong medical negligence team
01 May 2010
Field Fisher Waterhouse LLP announces today
the appointment of a leading medical negligence team who will join
the firm on 1st May. Partners, Richard Vallance and Edwina Rawson; solicitors, Dr Chista Kermani and
Claire Howeson; and barrister Jonathan
Zimmern, join from Charles Russell.
Richard, Edwina and their team have a leading
reputation in the industry and will see the firm’s Personal Injury & Medical Negligence practice
grow to eight partners and six other fee earners, significantly
boosting its medical negligence capability.
Richard Vallance has over 30 years’ experience
in medical negligence work and is acknowledged as “one of the best
clinical negligence solicitors in the business” by Legal
500. He advises on a wide range of high-value medical
negligence claims and is an Assessor on the Law Society Clinical
Negligence Specialist Panel. He is a member of Action for
Victims of Medical Accidents (AvMA) and former chair of the Forum
of Complex Injury Solicitors.
Edwina advises on a wide range of medical
negligence claims including those involving surgery, birth injury
and fatal accidents. She was heavily involved with the vCJD
(Variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease) compensation scheme and has
advised on high profile cases relating to cosmetic surgery and
superbugs. She has campaigned for improvements in pre-natal
testing and better protection for cosmetic surgery patients. She is
a Special Adviser to AvMA as well as a member of the Clinical
Negligence Law Society Panel.
Dr Chista Kermani is a qualified doctor and
worked in surgery for a number of years before becoming a solicitor
and joining Charles Russell. Jonathan Zimmern is a
qualified barrister and, as well as advising on a range of medical
negligence claims, represents clients at Coroners’ Inquests.
The new team will build on Field Fisher
Waterhouse’s existing medical negligence practice led by partner,
Paul McNeil. It is virtually unique
as a City based medical negligence practice which focuses on high
value, complex claims with cases covering antenatal care, obstetric
care, paediatric care, ophthalmology, surgery and clinical
trials.
Paul McNeil said: “Richard, Edwina and the
team have an excellent reputation in the medical negligence field
and we have known them for many years. Their practice complements
our strengths and our focus on high value, complex cases and our
combined resources give us unparalleled depth and expertise in the
field.”
