Field Fisher Waterhouse advises on two AIM deals in one week

18 October 2010

Field Fisher Waterhouse LLP has reinforced its AIM credentials, acting on two significant AIM fundraisings completing in the same week.

In the first, the firm advised KPMG Corporate Finance and Mirabaud Securities LLP on resource company Central Asia Metals plc (CAM)’s flotation on AIM and successful placing which raised $60 million.

The team, led by corporate partner Anthony Brockbank and assisted by senior associate Brad Isaac and associate Caroline Nicholls, advised the nominated adviser and broker respectively on CAM’s placing and flotation, valuing the company in excess of £82 million. The team worked closely with Susan Walker of KPMG Corporate Finance and Peter Krens at Mirabaud. Ashurst advised CAM.

Anthony Brockbank said: “This is a crucial step in CAM’s development and required a combined team effort from all advisers involved. Our knowledge and experience in the AIM market was paramount to assisting KPMG and Mirabaud in completing this successful venture.”

CAM is a UK incorporated resources company which currently has interests in copper, gold and molybdenum mining exploration and development assets in Kazakhstan and Mongolia. The proceeds of the placing will be used to develop CAM’s assets and projects in Kazakhstan.

The firm also advised AIM-quoted oil and gas exploration company President Petroleum plc on a placing to raise $50 million. Partner Dominic Gurney-Champion, senior associate Nicholas Heap and solicitor Edward Westhead advised on the deal, which raised proceeds to fund two high impact exploration wells and further exploration and drilling in Louisiana and South Australia.

Field Fisher Waterhouse has a strong reputation in the AIM field, as well as leading oil and gas sector expertise. Last month the Corporate group advised Kazakhstan-based oil and gas producer KazMunaiGas Exploration Production on two significant acquisitions to expand its operations.
