Field Fisher Waterhouse boosts dispute resolution practice with new partner hire

23 September 2010

Field Fisher Waterhouse LLP announces today the appointment of litigation partner Jonathan Ray-Smith.

His appointment will further strengthen the firm's growing dispute resolution practice which over the last few years has grown to ten partners and 20 associates, making a number of lateral hires including bringing in insolvency disputes partner Michael Mulligan from Halliwells.

Jonathan, who joins the firm from McFaddens LLP, has over 16 years experience as a litigator acting for both corporate and private clients on a diverse range of civil litigation and dispute resolution cases. He has advised on cases at all levels of the English legal system, as well as representing clients at Employment Tribunals and public inquiries. In addition to his domestic clients, Jonathan has acted for international clients, with a particular focus on the Middle East, Japan and the CIS.

Jonathan represented one of the parties in relation to multi-jurisdictional litigation relating to the estate of the deceased Georgian oligarch Arkadi ("Badri") Patarkatsishvili.

Jonathan's cases include multi-million pound claims for breach of contract, breach of trust, misrepresentation, negligence, breach of confidence and civil fraud. He also advises on employment-related contractual disputes, particularly concerning the termination of company executives’ contracts and has acted for clients on Financial Services Authority investigations and enforcement cases for insider dealing and market abuse. Jonathan also has experience of sports-related regulatory disputes, having represented the claimant in one of the leading authorities in this area of law.

Peter Stewart, Head of the Dispute Resolution Group at Field Fisher Waterhouse, said: "The dispute resolution team is working on an increasing number of significant, high value cases, including those involving international clients in regions such as the Middle East and CIS. Jonathan's focus on the Middle East, CIS and Japan will be a major asset to the practice as we continue to attract overseas instructions."
