Field Fisher Waterhouse promotes CIS disputes specialist to partner
20 September 2010
Field Fisher Waterhouse LLP announces today the promotion of
associate Natalia Chumak to partner. Natalia joined the firm's
Dispute Resolution practice in February from Osborne Clarke. She is
a native Russian speaker and works within Field Fisher Waterhouse's
growing cross-departmental CIS Group.
Natalia, who qualified as an English solicitor in 2002,
specialises in advising CIS clients on complex, high value
international commercial arbitration and litigation. She primarily
acts for CIS based high net worth individuals and trading companies
in the banking, energy and natural resources sectors; advising on
contractual disputes, fraud, asset freezing and search orders.
The promotion follows the firm's May 2010 promotion round that
saw a record nine partner promotions, including Arik Aslanyan, a
corporate partner who also sits within the CIS Group.
The firm's successful CIS Group, led by Alex Woodfield, has
grown in recent years and now comprises 12 lawyers, including eight
Russian speakers. The Group acts for major Russian and CIS
businesses and entrepreneurs including a number of clients in the
oil and gas industry. Last month, the team closed a deal for JSC
KazMunaiGas Exploration Production, one of the largest oil and gas
producers in Kazakhstan, worth US$1.66 billion.
Field Fisher Waterhouse Managing Partner Moira Gilmour said: “We
are delighted to announce the promotion of Natalia to partner
reflecting her strong performance since she joined the firm earlier
this year. Our CIS practice has seen considerable success and a
growing profile over the past few years and Natalia’s disputes
expertise and Russian language skills are a significant asset to
the Group.”
