Firm advises Stagecoach on mobile ticketing partnering deal in UK first
31 July 2012
Field Fisher Waterhouse LLP has advised
transport operator, Stagecoach Group, on its new partnership with
the UK's biggest communications company, Everything Everywhere to
launch a mobile contactless ticketing trial. This is the UK's
first Government–standard commercial deployment of contactless
transport ticketing.
This partnership will allow bus users to
receive, store and validate their bus tickets using their mobile
phone. A trial is already underway on the Stagecoach bus
network in Cambridgeshire and could lead to a nationwide roll out
in 2013 across select bus and rail services. Everything
Everywhere has provided each customer in the trial with a Quick Tap
enabled mobile handset on its Orange mobile brand. The
service features a specially designed app to make the handsets
compatible with the local bus network's smartcard readers.
Technology and
Telecoms partner John
Worthy led on the deal with support from Privacy partner Phil Lee and Technology and Telecoms
associates David Lewis
and Nick Ball.
The firm advised on the structuring, drafting and negotiation of
the partnering deal with Everything Everywhere.
John Worthy said: “The growth of mobile
ticketing and mobile payments is quickly gaining momentum and we
expect to see similar trials over the course of the year.
This revolution is driven by smart phone apps, which present a
wealth of opportunities for both consumers and businesses,
including greater convenience and the potential for additional
revenue streams.”
This deal reflects the strength of Field
