Graeme Nuttall appointed Mutuals Ambassador by Cabinet Office
25 October 2012
Minister for the Cabinet Office Francis Maude
announced at the SOLACE Summit 2012 that Graeme Nuttall, partner at
Field Fisher Waterhouse has been appointed as a Mutuals Ambassador as part of
the Government's Mutuals Ambassadors Programme.
Fledgling and existing mutuals will be given a
vital helping hand from 15 inspiring individuals. They will
work free of charge to drive forward the public service mutuals
movement. This will include troubleshooting specific
concerns, sharing their commercial expertise, promoting public
service mutuals and identifying upcoming new projects.
The Government has selected people from a wide
variety of organisations, including local authorities, mutuals,
professional services and business firms, to deliver effective
support. All the individuals are leaders in their fields.
Ambassadors include Andrew Burnell, CEO of City Healthcare
Partnership, a public service mutual with 1,400 staff and a
turnover of around £52 million; and Patrick Lewis, Managing
Director of Partnership Services, of the John Lewis
Partnership.
Graeme Nuttall, a partner at law firm Field
Fisher Waterhouse has extensive experience in this field and
earlier this year was appointed as the Government’s independent
adviser on employee ownership. Graeme launched his final
report on employee ownership on 4 July 2012 which provided
recommendations on how to promote employee ownership and spread the
benefits into the wider economy.
Graeme Nuttall said: "I am delighted to accept
this appointment and am looking forward to driving forward employee
ownership and its move into the mainstream of the economy.
The benefits of employee ownership are huge and clearly
demonstrated by the many UK success stories. It is time for
the wider business community to appreciate what employee ownership
can do for business, in both the public and private sector and the
growth of the UK economy."
Minister for the Cabinet Office Francis Maude
said: “The independent Mutuals Taskforce recommended in their
last report that we should coordinate a network of Mutuals
Ambassadors, and we have done just that."
“These new Ambassadors will play a key role in
finding solutions to overcome barriers to upcoming and existing
mutuals. We know there are thousands of frontline staff who
know how the services they deliver can be run better, and the extra
support we have announced today will help them to get there.”
