FFW creates new Regulatory Department
28 June 2005
City law firm Field Fisher Waterhouse has reorganised its three
Public & Regulatory, EU & Competition, and Telecoms teams
to create a new Regulatory Department comprising eight partners and
18 other lawyers.
The restructuring is a key step in implementing FFW’s Strategy
for Growth by which the firm is aiming to increase turnover from
£47 million to £75 million in the next three years.
Regulatory is one of the five areas the firm has identified for
significant growth, along with public sector, corporate, finance,
and intellectual property and technology.
With two new partners (Martin Smith from Clifford Chance and
James Robinson from Tite & Lewis) and eight other lawyers
recently joining, the Department has the range of expertise and
resources to develop both the public and private sector areas of
its practice.
Partner Matthew Lohn, Head of the Regulatory Department,
says:
“The public law and regulatory part of our practice grew by 35%
last year and we are confident that we can maintain its healthy
growth by continuing to provide a first rate service to both our
public and private sector clients.
Within the public sector we want to build further on our work
for the 20 regulators for whom we act.
On the private sector side, we believe that bringing all members of
the team together helps us better marshal our broad skills and
experience so as to offer something very different to commercial
clients, in particular those in regulated industries such as
aviation, financial services, media, rail and telecoms. The
combination of our appreciation of regulator thinking, the EU,
competition and public procurement expertise of James Robinson and
Charles Whiddington and the commercial regulatory expertise of Tony
Ballard is truly distinctive.”
