FFW advises Hartford on acquisition of Henry J Beans

03 October 2005

City law firm Field Fisher Waterhouse (FFW) has advised Hartford Group plc on its acquisition of 100% of the share capital of the Henry J Beans Group Limited for a total consideration of £5.8 million. The acquisition follows Hartford Group’s acquisition of Brodie & Knight earlier in 2005.

The consideration comprises £3.6 million paid in cash at completion for the equity, together with repaying indebtedness of £2.2 million. The acquisition has been financed from a new debt facility provided by Barclays Bank plc.

The Hartford Group operates 26 wine bars, bars and restaurants in and around London, including the Jamies wine bar chain. Henry J Beans is a high-quality American-focused bar and grill concept renowned for its diverse range of quality drinks and cocktails, and food served from an open grill. The Henry J Beans brand targets similar customer groups to the current Hartford businesses but at the same time delivers an opportunity to expand into new markets outside Central London.  Henry J Beans operates five managed outlets in the UK, located in Chelsea and Camden in London, Bristol, Manchester and Birmingham.

FFW real estate partners Paul Houston and Ramatu Banga advised Hartford, with corporate assistant solicitor John McLaughlin.  McGrigors (Patrick Martin) advised the sellers; BLP (Michael Ewart) advised Barclays Bank.
