FFW grows Media and Communications Group with new partner appointment

20 February 2006

Field Fisher Waterhouse (FFW) announces today the appointment of Jeremy Miles, who joins the firm’s Media and Communications Group as a partner.  Jeremy joins from Lion Television, where he was Director of Legal and Business Affairs. This is the fourth partner hire by FFW in only a month, following the arrival of Simon Briskman from Olswang; and Neil Foster and David Naylor from Morrison and Foerster.

Jeremy Miles began his career in private practice and then moved to Granada Television as a Business Affairs Manager before going to Lion Television as Head (later Director) of Legal & Business Affairs.   His arrival is a further boost to FFW’s  Media and Communications Group following on from the arrival last year of Christopher Jackson from Richards Butler. Jeremy's in-house experience of TV and media will bring considerable additional resource to the team.

Jeremy’s experience in his role at Lion Television was wide-ranging, given that Lion is a major UK independent production company, with over 200 production staff at its London, Glasgow, New York and Los Angeles bases. It produces documentary, factual entertainment and formatted programming and new media content. Lion counts amongst its clients all the UK terrestrial broadcasters and major secondary broadcasters including Sky, the Flextech channels, UKTV and The History Channel. In the US, Lion has produced programming for Fox Broadcasting network and a wide range of cable stations including Discovery and National Geographic.

FFW’s Media and Communications Group has a broad range of experience in media and broadcasting work.  It has a particular strength in convergence and new media, given its leading telecoms and technology practice.  Clients include BBC, MTV, Celador, Broadcasters' Audience Research Board (BARB), Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Blockbuster, Warner Brothers, 20th Century Fox and UK Digital.

Tony Ballard, head of FFW’s Communications Group, said: “Jeremy Miles will enhance our media and communications capabilities, particularly as he has excellent in-house production and new media experience.  His appointment is a further boost to our team following on from the arrival last year of Christopher Jackson and last month’s hires of Neil Foster and David Naylor from Morrison and Foerster, all of whom have considerable media experience.”

Colin McArthur, FFW’s Managing Partner, added: “We welcome Jeremy Miles to the FFW partnership.  His first-class in-house experience will boost not only our Media and Communications Group, but will also be an invaluable asset to the entire firm as we continue to grow and develop our client base.”
