13 January 2006

Field Fisher Waterhouse (FFW) announces today the appointment of a new information technology partner, Simon Briskman, who joins the firm from Olswang.

Simon Briskman specialises in information and communications technology transactions, outsourcing and advisory work. He acts for clients across a range of sectors including Avis, Convergys and Land Securities Trillium on complex and innovative deals. Recent projects include advising a major ISP on the roll out of its "triple play" video, voice and data network across the UK and the PFI outsourcing of the DVLA's property portfolio and related service in a 20-year deal covering 58 properties.

Simon's core advisory practice includes e-commerce, data protection and telecommunications privacy.  He is currently advising a mobile network provider on the new EU data retention directive and remains at the forefront of developments in the field.  Simon has considerable experience in the IT sector having spent three years in-house with Fujitsu, is a member of the National Outsourcing Association and is a committee member of Intellect's outsourcing group. He regularly contributes to journals and speaks at seminars on current outsourcing, IT and data privacy issues.

This appointment is a major boost for FFW’s Technology Law practice, which is one of the largest in the country. It brings the total number of partners in the department up to six.

Michael Chissick, FFW’s Head of Technology Law, said: “The appointment of Simon Briskman is a significant one for the Technology Law practice as he will strengthen both our IT and outsourcing practices. We specialise in delivering high-quality and practical solutions to technology projects and Simon’s appointment will be of major benefit to our clients.”

Colin McArthur, FFW’s Managing Partner, said: “We welcome Simon Briskman to the FFW partnership.  The appointment of excellent lawyers like Simon reflects both our commitment to grow the firm's business and our confidence in the future.”

Simon Briskman said  "FFW has a tremendous team and offers great work. I am delighted to be joining the firm and look forward to contributing to its continuing success."
