In November 2004 FFW put in place an ambitious strategy for
growth, which targeted an increase in turnover from (then) £47
million to £75 million by 2008. This set of figures marks an
important milestone in that process and demonstrates that the FFW
is on track to meet this target.
Highlights from the last financial year include:
- ID Cards. FFW was appointed sole legal
adviser to the Home Office in relation to its groundbreaking ID
cards programme.
BBC. Acting for the BBC on its £166 million sale of BBC
Broadcast to Macquarie Bank of Australia following an auction
process.
- H&M. Advising H&M on a franchise deal
which will see the Swedish fashion retailer open 17 stores across
the Middle East.
Manhattan Loft Corporation. Advising preferred bidder
Manhattan Loft Corporation in relation to the redevelopment of the
Grade I Listed former Midland Hotel at St Pancras Station into a
mixed use hotel residential and retail scheme. When completed, this
development will form the centrepiece of the new Eurostar Terminal
at King's Cross.
- Victims of Terrorism. Partner Jill
Greenfield is advising British victims of terrorism abroad in
relation to the financial consequences of terrorism – in particular
pursuing a claim against the Turkish government and working with
Lord Brennan QC on a Private Members Bill to be presented at the
end of 2006.
Arriva. Advising Arriva on the disposal of Arriva Vehicle Rental -
its car and commercial vehicle rental division, on its bid for the
South West Trains franchise and on the procurement of 43 diesel
multiple units from Swiss manufacturer, Stadler.
- MCC. Acting for the MCC on its decision
to declare the Kookaburra reinforced cricket bat illegal, under
threat of an interim injunction by Kookaburra. The bat, which was
used by Australia Captain Ricky Ponting during the recent Ashes
series and is used by several leading cricketers, has been
withdrawn with immediate effect and will not be used in upcoming
international matches.
- AIM. FFW has already advised on 12 AIM
floats in 2006.
Moira Gilmour, FFW’s managing partner, said: “I am really
encouraged by these figures which are the result of a growth
strategy focused on key clients, making bold lateral hires and
investing in people and infrastructure. We are putting in
place the building blocks to become within a few years one of the
leading mid-sized independent law firms in the UK.”
