FFW advises AIM listed PLUS Markets on major fundraising

19 January 2007

Field Fisher Waterhouse LLP (FFW) has advised AIM listed client, PLUS Markets Group plc on a £25 million fundraising that will drive the company’s plans for expansion.

PLUS Markets is an independent UK provider of primary and secondary equity market services. Previously, the company was known as OFEX Holdings plc and operated the OFEX market.  PLUS Markets continues to operate its own primary market and currently trades over 180 small and mid-cap company shares with a combined market capitalisation of over £150 billion.  The Group has also expanded its services by introducing a trading platform offering trading in listed and unlisted securities quoted on the Official List and AIM as well as the securities quoted on its own primary market.

The £25 million fundraising will allow PLUS Markets to extend its services and expand its trading platform, allowing investment firms to meet their execution, reporting and transparency needs under MiFID in an efficient and cost-effective manner. It will also bring competition to the UK market for the trading of small and mid-cap securities by introducing a choice of execution venue.

The FFW team was led by corporate partner Dominic Gurney-Champion, assisted by corporate lawyer George Cotter. This deal demonstrates a strong start to the year, following on from the Corporate Group advising on 50 capital market transactions in 2006.

Dominic Gurney-Champion said: “We advised Plus Markets on its original AIM listing and are delighted to have advised the company on this additional fundraising, which will be used to drive forward their expansion plans.”

Numis Securities Limited acted as broker to Plus Markets. Simmons & Simmons advised Numis.
