14 April 2008

Field Fisher Waterhouse LLP has advised  BBC Legal on the sale of the Outside Broadcasts division of the BBC’s wholly-owned commercial subsidiary, BBC Resources Ltd, to Satellite Information Services Ltd (SIS).

BBC Outside Broadcasts is one of the UK's leading providers of outside broadcast production facilities and services. It operates a large fleet of television production units plus sound, support and communications vehicles and award-winning special cameras.  The business supports events ranging from music festivals, drama productions and major state occasions, to Wimbledon, the Olympics and World Cup football.

Under SIS ownership, Outside Broadcasts will continue to provide services to the BBC and other customers.

Corporate partner Andrew Blankfield led the Field Fisher Waterhouse team on the deal, assisted by corporate solicitor Carlton Durrant.

The BBC is a long standing client of the firm. The firm also supported BBC Legal on the disposals of BBC Technology in 2004 and BBC Broadcast in 2005 and has more recently advised BBC Worldwide on a number of investments,  including Left Bank Productions, an independent production vehicle set up by “The Queen” producer Andy Harries.

The firm has a strong reputation for corporate work in the media sector, and has recently closed deals for Viacom, Chello Zone  and Hammer Film Holdings.

Andrew Blankfield said: “We are delighted to have been instructed on this latest major corporate deal by the BBC.”

SIS was advised Olswang partner Mark Bertram and associate James McIntyre-Brown.
