Field Fisher Waterhouse advises Tottenham Hotspur on tackling counterfeit goods
21 February 2008
Field Fisher Waterhouse LLP are acting on behalf
of Premier League football club, Tottenham Hotspur to target those
selling counterfeit goods on internet auction site, eBay. So far,
the firm has removed over 1,000 auctions from the site.
Counterfeit products removed from the site include
a huge range of products from replica football kits and watches, to
tankards and gnomes emblazoned with the football club’s logo. Field
Fisher Waterhouse pro-actively monitors eBay, and works with the
internet auction site to remove the counterfeit products.
With the continued success of targeting sellers on
eBay, the football club are now stepping up their campaign against
counterfeit goods and will be taking a more aggressive stance,
commencing legal action against persistent offenders.
Lewis Cohen, senior solicitor at Field Fisher
Waterhouse, brought Tottenham Hotspur with him as a client when he
joined the firm in October last year from McGrigors. Field Fisher
Waterhouse has since been asked to work with the football club to
combat counterfeit goods.
The rise of e-commerce, and in particular
internet auction sites such as eBay, has led to a significant rise
in counterfeiting activity. Field Fisher Waterhouse runs an
anti-counterfeiting and anti-piracy service, CounterACT, and has a track record for advising
clients on counterfeiting and piracy and implementing prevention
strategies.
Lewis Cohen said: “Tottenham Hotspur takes the
protection of its trade marks, designs and copyright
material very seriously. As part of its brand protection, the club
have been working closely with the team at Field Fisher Waterhouse
to take pro-active steps to police and enforce its rights against
the sellers of counterfeit products.”
