Field Fisher Waterhouse advises on international wine merchant partnership

24 September 2008

Field Fisher Waterhouse LLP has advised the shareholders in Armit, a leading fine wine merchant, on a partnership with Netherlands based Baarsma Wine Group.

The deal, which is backed by AAC Capital Partners, will see Baarsma acquire 75% of the issued share capital of Armit with the balance purchased by Chairman John Armit, CEO Ian Ronald and other members of the senior management team.

Armit is a leading fine wine merchant with a turnover approaching £24m.  The business, which focuses on private clients, UK hotels, restaurants and international trade buyers, has grown strongly over the last couple of years. The partnership with Baarsma will allow Armit to further develop its business in the UK, Continental Europe and the Far East, through organic growth, acquisitions and joint ventures.

Field Fisher Waterhouse corporate partner Andrew Blankfield led on the deal assisted by a team including corporate solicitor Sabina Coles and tax solicitor Mark Gearing.

Andrew Blankfield said: “We have been advising Armit for the past year and are pleased to have been able to work with the shareholders to secure this partnership with Baarsma.  The funds raised will allow the company to realise its ambitious growth plans.”

Travers Smith acted for Baarsma.
