Lewis helps companies to commercialise their intellectual assets
whilst ensuring that the appropriate protection and safeguards are
in place.
He advises on a wide range of intellectual property matters,
including licensing, sponsorship,
franchising, distribution and agency
arrangements as well as on brand and
domain name protection and enforcement
strategies.
Lewis has a particular sport and
sponsorship focus and his recent work
includes advising in connection with the sponsorship of the FIFA
World Cups in 2010 and 2014 and the Confederations Cups in 2009 and
2013, Cancer Research UK's Race for Life, the Greyhound Derby and
the Ballantine's Championship. He advises a leading Premier
League football club on its commercial and intellectual property
arrangements such as sponsorship, licensing and brand
protection. Lewis has helped that club to take down well over
2,000 auctions from eBay. He also edits Sport Shorts, our update on legal developments
relating to the sports industry. Lewis has also authored numerous
sports related articles.
His work increasingly has an international dimension. He has
been recently advising clients on their expansion into countries
such as Bahrain, Jordan, Lebanon, Kuwait, Brazil, Mexico, Poland
and Greece.
Lewis also has extensive parallel import related experience
including risk management and dispute resolution and was involved
in the leading ECJ case, Levi Strauss v Tesco Stores Ltd.
Lewis has a post-graduate diploma in Trade Mark Law from Queen
Mary, University of London.
