Helmut De Vos is an associate in the
Competition and EU Regulatory Group of our Brussels Office. He
obtained a Master degree in Environmental Law at the Ghent
University in 2004.
Started as a trainee lawyer in 2004 at the
Ghent Bar, Helmut has served as a legal counsel to the
Directorate-general for Environment of the Belgian Federal Public
Service Public Health, Food Chain Security and Environment, for
more than three years, where he focused on product policy (eg.
RoHS, packages, motors and vehicles) and risk assessment issues
(biocides, dangerous substances and REACH), and where he was the
single point of contact for the transposition of European
Directives in these matters.
Helmut focuses on European Community law, with
special emphasis on environmental law and regulation, including
advising on chemicals, biocides and pesticides, and was admitted to
the Brussels Bar in May 2008.
He is co-author of the Kluwer edition on
European Environmental Law and its application in the Flemish
Region (part dangerous substances).
Helmut speaks Dutch, French and English, with a working
knowledge of German.
