Matthew Lohn heads our Public and Regulatory Law
Group. He advises statutory and other regulatory bodies on
all aspects of their work. His group has developed a
particular expertise in the law and practice of regulation, particularly
in the fields of healthcare, finance and sport.
Matthew’s public
law experience includes advising on professional conduct, human
rights issues and the development of public policy. He
advises and supports clients at Public Inquiries and undertakes a
varied caseload of judicial review and other statutory appeal work.
His work for Police Authorities includes advice on the disciplinary
prosecution of senior police officers.
Matthew regularly advises professional regulators on their
registration and disciplinary functions. He has advised on
the policy design and drafted several disciplinary schemes, most
recently for the General Medical Council and the Royal Institution
of Chartered Surveyors. He regularly prepares high profile
cases for hearing before disciplinary panels. Being a
qualified doctor as well as a solicitor, Matthew advises on the
misuse of drugs both in sport and other professional practice.
He is appointed as a legal advisor to the disciplinary
committees of the General Teaching Council and General Social Care
Council and to the Chairman's Panel for the disciplinary panels of
the Rugby Football Union and the Horseracing Regulatory
Authority.
