Claudio Mereu is a partner in our Brussels office, where he heads the EU Regulatory group and the firm's Life Sciences industry group. His practice
focuses on European Community law and business law, with an
emphasis on the chemicals and life sciences sectors. Claudio
advises companies on regulatory compliance issues and consortia
formation (under REACH, pesticides and biocides), product defence
strategies and product circulation across the European Union.
He handles related litigations before European and national courts
and counsels companies on a wide range of business law matters
relating to their international agreements and commercial presence
in Europe.
Claudio’s EC regulatory expertise covers all aspects of
chemicals, agrochemicals and biocides regulations and restrictions
(including notification, data protection, mutual recognition,
classification, labelling, marketing and use restrictions). He
regularly represents chemical companies before the European
Institutions, Member State authorities, Scientific Committees, and
the European courts. In the life sciences sector, Claudio advises
on a wide range of issues relating to the importation, regulation
and sale of medical devices, pharmaceuticals, novel food, food
supplements and food contact materials, for which he is recommended
by ”Global Counsel - Life Science Industry Report”.
Claudio graduated in law at the University of Modena (Italy),
where he specialised in European Community law. He studied one year
of law and economics at the University of Leicester (UK) and
obtained his postgraduate diploma in European Community law at
King's College (University of London). He is admitted to practice
in Belgium as avocat.
