David Naylor

David Naylor specialises in working with technology, media, communications and IP-focused businesses and investors.  He advises businesses at all stages of development, from early-stage ventures to multinationals.

He has experience in sectors including media and entertainment, internet and e-commerce, software, consumer devices and electronics, information technology, and communications.  He also advises technology and IP-rich businesses active in other areas including automotive, energy, healthcare and life sciences, financial services, recruitment and travel.  A substantial proportion of his work involves cross-border transactions and legal issues.

David regularly works with clients on value-enhancing transactions involving joint-ventures and partnering, technology acquisition, exploitation and transfer, software development and licensing, content distribution and supply, the development and provision of online services, the supply of telecommunications equipment and services, and outsourcing. He has substantial experience working on new media and internet matters with ISPs, search-engines, exchanges, auction sites, content providers and online retailers and service providers, including in connection with content acquisition, distribution and digital rights management; all forms of online contracting; complex copyright issues; and online defamation and other liability issues.

His general counselling practice embraces intellectual property development and exploitation, e-commerce and consumer protection regulation, communications regulatory strategy and privacy and information law matters.

He speaks and writes widely on technology, new media and privacy issues.  David is acknowledged as a leading lawyer in publications including Legal 500, PLC’s “Which Lawyer?” and "Who's Who Legal".  He is the founder of the Communications Group, a technology, media and communications networking forum, and on the editorial board of silicon.com.  He has an MBA from Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine.
