Tom Rider is a partner in Field Fisher
Waterhouse’s Public and Professional
Regulatory Law Group. Tom has extensive
experience of acting for both the newer and longer established
professional regulatory bodies on the full range of their statutory
functions. He regularly presents cases to their disciplinary
committees and has been responsible for the investigation of many
of the largest and most high profile cases. He handles appeals and
applications for judicial review to the High Court and Court of
Appeal, including those raising new or important legal
points. Tom also sits as Legal Assessor to several
disciplinary committees. He regularly advises on the
interpretation of legislation, and has assisted regulatory bodies
on the development of policy, including changes in legislation, and
has experience of drafting secondary legislation.
Tom is described in the Chambers Guide to the
Legal Profession as being “favoured for the high degree of
thoroughness he shows in terms of preparation, his attention to
detail when cases are in progress and his understanding of clients’
requirements.”
Tom speaks on regulatory matters at conferences
and seminars organised by professional regulatory bodies and other
organisations, particularly in the healthcare field. He is a member of
Association of Regulatory & Disciplinary Lawyers (ARDL).
