Marcus Turle is a transactional and advisory lawyer whose
practice focuses on technology. He advises on technology
procurement and outsourcing, and on
commercial legal issues affecting organisations which buy, use or
sell technology. He also has a particular interest in the legal
regulation of information, which covers things like data privacy, freedom of information and data
security.
Marcus has advised the UK government on some of the most high
profile and innovative technology projects of recent times. He
advised on the ID Cards scheme, the outsourcing of the National DNA
Database and the setting up of the Police National Database (an
intelligence sharing hub for the 43 police forces in England and
Wales). His private sector clients include an international
logistics company headquartered in Kuwait, a global provider of
data warehousing and enterprise analytics, and a hedge fund based
in London's Mayfair.
Marcus is the author of Data Protection Laws of the
World, a guide to privacy laws in over 60 countries, and
Freedom of Information Manual,
the leading practitioner's text on freedom of information in the
UK. He is also a Visiting Lecturer on Northumbria University's
Information Rights LLM, a post-graduate degree course funded by the
UK Ministry of Justice.
