Field Fisher Waterhouse LLP’s Privacy and Information Law Group has been listed as one of the top 10 Privacy Law practices in the world by Computerworld. Eduardo Ustaran was also listed as one of the top 25 privacy experts in the world. 

This was based on a survey of over 400 corporate privacy professionals participants.

Eduardo is the head of our Privacy and Information Law Group and an internationally recognised expert in privacy and data protection law.  He is a dually qualified English Solicitor and Spanish Abogado.  Eduardo specialises in the legal issues that derive from the use of information technology and the Internet.  He has been named by Revolution magazine as one of the 40 most influential people in the growth of the digital sector in the UK.

Eduardo advises on the impact of EU data protection and e-commerce law on the operational activities of all types of organisations, including FTSE 100 companies and public sector bodies.  He advises a number of international clients on the adoption of global privacy strategies.  Eduardo regularly manages teams of lawyers across many jurisdictions and has assisted data protection regulators from different countries to align their positions and interpretation of the law.

Eduardo has experience of drafting and negotiating data protection Binding Corporate Rules, including advising on the requirements to achieve BCR-status and working with a number of European data protection authorities in this area.  He also advises on the privacy aspects of offshore outsourcing.

With regard to the public sector, he has advised local authorities on the practical implications of adopting a data protection compliance programme and the steps involved in adopting a Publication Scheme under the Freedom of Information Act.  He has also advised on the development, implementation and management of the UK’s leading fraud data-sharing system.

Eduardo is a regular contributor to legal and industry journals and has taken part in many UK and international speaking engagements.  He is Co-chairman of KnowledgeNet London, editor of Data Protection Law & Policy and a member of the Panel of Experts of DataGuidance.  Eduardo is co-author of E-Privacy and Online Data Protection (Tottel Publishing, 2007) and of the Law Society’s Data Protection Handbook (2004).
