John Bowman heads our Planning and Environmental Group.
John advises on the planning and environmental aspects of a wide
range of transactions, including major infrastructure projects such
as roads, railways, airports, mineral developments, mixed-use
developments, brownfield regeneration, large scale residential and
retail. He also advises on the assessment and management of
planning and environmental risk in the context of mergers and
acquisitions and complex financing transactions.
A particular focus of his practice is the energy sector, where he advises on the
purchase and sale of assets and companies, and the consents process
for new energy developments including power projects (gas, combined
heat and power, wind, biofuels, nuclear, coal), gas storage
facilities, pipelines and refineries. He also advises on a range of
climate change related matters, and alternative ways of addressing
carbon dioxide emissions such as carbon capture and storage.
John speaks regularly at conferences and at in-house workshops
on a range of planning and environmental topics. He has also
published articles in a number of publications and has contributed
several chapters to “Climate Change: a Guide to Carbon Law and
Practice”.
John is qualified to practise in England, Wales and Scotland. He
is a member of the City of London Law Society Planning and
Environment Committee.
