Prof. Dr. Alexandra von
Bismarck is partner in the Hamburg office of Field Fisher
Waterhouse and heading the Trade Mark Department for Germany. She
is specialized in Intellectual Property law and advises on all
aspects of Intellectual Property, both contentious and
non-contentious, with a specific emphasis of national and
international trade mark, domain and design protection law.
Alexandra advises German and international companies from the
media, commercial, industrial, financial and automotive sectors
primarily in all trade mark and design matters and in the adjoining
fields of domain and competition law.
Alexandra is managing large
trade mark portfolios and advises her clients on brand clearance,
protection, exploitation and enforcement of their IP-rights, in
Germany, the EU and worldwide. She regularly represents national
and international companies in front of all major German courts in
infringement and cancellation actions. She is also frequently
involved in opposition proceedings at the German Trade Mark Office
and the Office of Harmonization in Alicante. Besides branding
strategy advice, she develops agreements on delimitations in prior
rights, licensing, purchase and merchandising contracts and
agreements on transfers of trade marks and domains.
Since 2008, she teaches a
LL.M. program in Business Law at the GGS German Graduate School of
Management and Law (Heilbronn). In February 2012 she was appointed
professor for German and European Business Law, Intellectual
Property and Technology Law. In this capacity, she now leads as an
academic director the LL.M. program in Legal Management, as well as
the syndic-institute of GGS.
Previously, Alexandra was
associated with a leading German boutique for IP law for more than
8 years, where she managed i.a. the trademark portfolio of a global
consumer goods company and an US-pharmaceutical firm.
Alexandra graduated at the
Universities of Constance and Lausanne. She worked as a legal
assistant and wrote her doctoral thesis on trade mark law at the
chair of, well-known trade mark expert, Prof. Dr. Karl-Heinz Fezer
in Constance.
Alexandra is member of INTA
(International Trade Mark Association), the Harmonization Committee
of ECTA (European Communities Trade Mark Association) and active
within the ECTA management. She is also a member of DAJV
(German-American Lawyers' Association), GRUR (German Association
for IP and Copyright) and DAV (German Lawyer’s Association).
She advises her clients in
German, English and French.
