Eric Cusas is managing partner of Field Fisher Waterhouse LLP’s
Belgian office. Eric has worked with the prominent Belgian law firm
Loeff Claeys Verbeke (1991-1998), before joining Verhaegen
Walravens as a partner in 1998.
Eric's range of activities covers most of commercial law issues.
Among these, he is a respected specialist in insolvency
proceedings. He has authored many articles on bankruptcy, among
which, Le nouveau droit du concordat et de la faillite, work
summing up Belgian bankruptcy law.
He has a strong practice in distribution, in particular in the
retail and automotive sectors. He provides advice to Belgian and
foreign companies in this field and has developed a strong practice
in urban planning assisting real estate developers in their retail
projects. This practice includes both advising clients (in
obtaining zoning, environment or commercial permits and
authorisations for major distribution centres, in drafting and
negotiating (lease) contracts) and litigating before the State
Council or the judicial courts.
Last, Eric represents private clients in pre-eminent pending
litigation cases against public authorities or entities (including
before the ECHR and the ECJ), involving constitutional and
administrative law matters.
