Colin Gibson is a partner in the Dispute
Resolution Group with broad experience of commercial disputes,
both domestically and internationally. He has particular expertise
in defamation, construction disputes, commercial/corporate disputes and domestic and
international trade disputes.
Colin's commercial dispute practice includes experience of
various forms of urgent injunctive relief (including search and
seize orders, freezing injunctions, injunctions restraining
breaches of contract) and of all forms of dispute resolution
technique (including litigation, arbitration, adjudication,
mediation). Colin's clients include listed companies, private
companies, regulators, statutory bodies and private
individuals.
Colin's defamation practice includes acting for claimants,
defendants and third parties in matters relating to allegations of
defamation, privacy, breach of confidence and related matters.
Colin advises pre-publication, post-publication/pre-proceedings and
after proceedings have been commenced. His clients include
companies, statutory bodies, industry associations and private
individuals.
Recent matters include:
- acting for an oil company and its shareholders in a major
shareholder dispute spanning three jurisdictions
- acting for the employer in a major ICC construction
arbitration
- acting in various international sale of goods matters
- acting in domestic commercial contract disputes
- advising a high profile statutory body on a series of
defamation issues
- advising various individuals and companies in respect of
proposed or published national press stories
- acting for private individuals in professional negligence
claims relating to offshore tax issues
Colin is authorised by the Dubai
International Financial Centre ("DIFC") as a practitioner permitted
to issue and conduct proceedings in the DIFC Courts which hear all
types of civil and commercial matters. Proceedings in the DIFC
Courts are conducted in English applying common law principles.
Colin is a regular speaker on
litigation matters and has had various articles published on both
law and procedure.
Colin has appeared on BBC
TV and Radio as a litigation expert and has been
interviewed on defamation
issues by The Guardian and The Independent.
Colin is a Committee member of The London Solicitors' Litigation
Association.
