Victoria Hordern advises on compliance with privacy and information law. Her expertise
focuses on advising businesses, the public sector and charities on
data protection, privacy, freedom of information, IT and
e-commerce.
Victoria advises on a range of data protection matters from
e-marketing, privacy policies, whistleblowing, data
retention, surveillance and monitoring to outsourcing
arrangements. She has been involved
in several pan-European and global projects dealing with
data protection compliance as well as advising on the
implementation of binding corporate rules. Victoria frequently
assesses the compliance of business practices or proposals
with data protection and privacy rules. More recently she
has carried out an evaluation of compliance with data sharing rules
for a public sector organisation. In the online environment,
Victoria advises businesses on consumer protection and ecommerce
regulation as well as online privacy and content liability
issues.
Victoria assists public sector and private
sector organisations on the application of exemptions
under the Freedom of Information Act and Environmental Information
Regulations in response to requests for information as well as on
the overlap between the data protection and freedom of information
regimes. She has advised public service broadcasters, police
authorities, public authorities with responsibility for health and
housing as well as central government about their obligations
under information laws. Additionally, she has advised private
companies about how to structure their contractual arrangements
with public authorities to protect their information.

Victoria has contributed to journals on data protection and
freedom of information including Data Protection Law and
Policy and World Data Protection Report.
She has also spoken at our client seminars and provided training on
Freedom of Information Act/Environmental Information
