Shelley
Nadler is a dedicated franchise lawyer who has over 19 years
experience in advising on all aspects of franchising. Her expertise
lies in negotiating international and national franchise agreements
for retailers, pubs and restaurants and
in the service industries. She has advised major high street
retailers and restaurant operators on franchising internationally
in the Middle East, Russia, China, India, South
America and Europe. Shelley has acted on behalf of a
number of UK based master franchisees and developers taking
franchises from North American franchisors.
She has prepared franchise agreements for a
large number of UK based franchisors from small start ups to major
national companies and provided ongoing advice and assistance to
them on the recruitment of franchisees, the operation of franchise
systems and dispute management. Shelley has advised a number
of well known estate agency chains, residential and lettings, on
their franchise expansion and was part of a team advising on the
franchise aspects of the sale of the Halifax Estate Agencies
subsidiary by Lloyds Banking Group.
Shelley spent several months on secondment to
a major print shop franchisor reviewing internal procedures and
documentation. She has also been seconded to the character
licensing division of Warner Bros.
Shelley has lectured at a UN WIPO conference
on licensing in Belarus and has spoken in China on how to establish
a business in the UK. She is a regular speaker at BFA and
other seminars.
In December 2008, Shelley was selected by the
BFA as one of their panel of judges to select the BFA Franchisor
and Franchisee of the Year. The presentation of these awards are
the highlights of the BFA calendar - the focus being two gala
dining events - one a black tie dinner the evening before
the National Franchise Exhibition at the NEC; the other a
lunch and afternoon event at the Grosvenor House in London. This is
a tremendous recognition in BFA circles of Shelley's long and
high level of experience in domestic franchising.
She has written many articles for the
franchise trade press and has co-written the UK section of the
Encyclopaedia of Franchising (published by Kluwer) with Martin
Mendelsohn. Shelley is recognised in the Legal Business Guide to
Legal Experts 2011 as an expert in franchising law.
Shelley has assisted a number of retailers
and restaurant companies in relations to their global franchising
expansion including Mothercare, Early Learning Centre, Costa
and the Dove
Spa and Ponds Institute beauty salons (part of
Unilever). In the UK she has worked with Halifax Estate
Agencies on their estate agency franchise and a number of
restaurant franchises including Papa Johns and Ed’s Dinner.
