Beatriz San Martín

Beatriz is a senior associate in the IP & Technology Dispute Resolution Group.  She has a degree and PhD from the University of Cambridge specialising in genetics, cellular and molecular biology.  She completed the Bristol University Diploma in Intellectual Property Law in 2006.

Beatriz has a broad practice area advising clients in all aspects of intellectual property, with a particular focus on patents, SPCs and the life sciences sector.  She is currently assisting in two patent cases on behalf of Eli Lilly & Company and a further medical device patent case before the Patents County Court.

For the past three years, Beatriz has been heavily involved in a substantial multijurisdictional breach of confidence action on behalf of Vestergaard Frandsen concerning insecticide incorporated mosquito nets and has assisted in associated patent entitlement cases in a number of countries. 

Besides her considerable experience with patents, Beatriz has been the lead assistant in a major passing off case.  She has managed the brand and domain name protection programmes of a number of multi-national companies including Dell and Logica against on-line abuse.  Beatriz has also advised a chemicals company on copyright and database right concerning dossiers produced under the Biocidal Products Directive and has provided intellectual property advice to the Home Office on the National DNA Database and the restructuring of the Forensic Science Service.

Beatriz is a member of AIPPI and of the Life Sciences & Healthcare group at FFW.  She has written numerous articles for legal and pharmaceutical publications and is on the Editorial Advisory Board of Pharmaceutical Technology Europe. Beatriz is a regular speaker in a number of external conferences.For the past four years, Beatriz has coordinated a series of IP lectures for the University of Cambridge Master in Bioscience Enterprise and is one of the lecturers in the course. 

Beatriz is bilingual in Spanish and English.
