William Thompson

William is a senior associate in the Real Estate department specialising in UK and European real estate investment and development, including acquisition and disposals, development, landlord and tenant, structuring and application of joint ventures, acquisition and development finance and other structured real estate transactions.

William has a wealth of experience acting in many sectors including industrial, retail, hotel and leisure and office and has been involved with numerous large and complex transactions for industry-leading clients.

William's notable engagements include:

  • Management of portfolios of office, industrial, retail, data centre and mixed use investments for landlords and tenants including notable institutional investors and historic major landlowners including acquisitions and disposals, the pre-letting of development land, the grant, surrender, re-gearing and renewal (both with security of tenure and without) of leasehold interests (including occupational rack rent and turnover lettings and long leasehold interests) and all other legal management
  • Assisting on the acquisition of the Covent Garden Estate (a portfolio of 31 properties) for £421m and the subsequent refinancing of that portfolio on behalf of a major investor
  • Assisting on the acquisition of 17 Hanover Square for £87m and the Liberty Shopping Centre, Romford for £281m for a major investor client
  • £45m acquisition for development of the occupied and mixed let 16-18 New Bridge Street, London for a major real estate investor/developer client
  • Real Estate advisor on the £350 million corporate acquisition of one of the largest UK agricultural food producers.
  • Advising one of the world's largest data centre developers, on the acquisition, financing, development and leasing of various data centres nationwide including substantial schemes in Redhill and Manchester
  • The relocation, development and pre-letting of head office premises for Bookham Technology Plc upon an extensive brownfield site in Paignton, Devon
  • Acting for a developer client on the funding, complex site assembly purchase and subsequent development of a large number of sites nationwide together with the pre-letting of those sites to a major UK supermarket chain
  • Acting for a a major UK developer on the site assembly, pre-letting and development of an extensive hotel and restaurant complex to Premier Inns
  • Relocation, redevelopment, refurbishment and letting of new headquarters Houndsditch, London for a major investment bank
  • Real Estate finance advice to lender on the provision of £180m facility to a major health club chain secured against a portfolio of 61 health clubs and the corporate acquisition of the Livingwell chain of health clubs from Hilton International
  • Acting for a borrower in respect of £100m secured refinancing of a portfolio of properties in New Bond Street.
