Eduardo
Ustaran is head of our Privacy and
Information Law Group and an internationally recognised expert
in privacy and data protection law.
A dually qualified English Solicitor and Spanish Abogado,
Eduardo specialises in the legal issues that derive from the use of
information technology and the Internet. Eduardo advises on the
impact of EU data protection and e-commerce law on the operational
activities of all types of organisations,
including FTSE 100 companies and public sector bodies. He
advises a number of international clients on the adoption of global
privacy strategies.
Eduardo regularly manages teams of lawyers across many
jurisdictions and has assisted data protection regulators from
different countries to align their positions and interpretation of
the law. Named by Revolution magazine as one of the 40 most
influential people in the growth of the digital sector in the UK,
Eduardo is also ranked as a Leading Individual for data protection
by Chambers UK and in a
Computerworld survey.
Eduardo advises clients in the energy,
life sciences, media & entertainment, public sector, retail
and technology & communications
sectors.
Eduardo has been appointed to the
Board of Directors of the International Association of Privacy
Professionals. He is also Co-chairman of KnowledgeNet
London, the editor of Data Protection Law & Policy and a member
of the Panel of Experts of DataGuidance. Eduardo is co-author of
E-Privacy and Online Data Protection (Tottel Publishing, 2007) and
of the Law Society’s Data Protection Handbook (2004). Eduardo is a
regular contributor to our Privacy & Information Law
blog and has taken part in many international speaking
engagements.
Eduardo regularly lectures at the
University of Cambridge as part of its Masters of Bioscience
Enterprise on data protection law.
