With a commercial law background, Tim Van Canneyt works in
the Technology Law
Group, where he advises clients on both contractual
and litigation aspects of information technology, data protection and
e-commerce.
An important part of this practice includes
drafting and negotiating complex IT service agreements, and
advising on legal aspects relating to system integration,
maintenance, licensing as well as outsourcing. Over the years, he
has been seconded to a leading settlement services provider and a
global consulting, technology services and outsourcing company,
which has allowed him to get a better understanding of the client’s
needs.
He has a significant experience in the field
of privacy, data protection and data security, where he advises
clients on their privacy compliance issues, such as consent issues,
international data transfers, accurate privacy policies and
notifications with the data protection authorities. He has a
particular interest in privacy challenges caused by digital
technologies and services (RFID, cookies, cloud computing
etc.).
He also gained experience with business
criminal law, where he litigates in fraud cases and assists clients
with their compliance, and fraud prevention schemes.
He is a member of the International
Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).
Tim Van Canneyt has been a speaker on several
seminars both in Belgium and abroad. Among his publications, one
may refer to his articles on whistleblowing and data breach
notifications both published in the Cahier du Juriste and to his
articles on the evidential value of findings by bailiffs on
websites, published in the R.D.T.I. and in the Digital Evidence and
Electronic Signature Law Review.
