Mutualisation

Our Mutualisation team has a strong powerful track record of advising clients in the public sector on innovative new structures, involving one or a combination of more elements of employee ownership, co-ownership, social enterprise and mutuality. In addition to this, we can offer you the benefits of a fully commercial law firm with all the strengths in those areas you need to ensure that your enterprise flourishes, including expertise in Corporate, Tax, Employment, Pensions and Real Estate.

We have advised on pioneering social enterprise projects within the NHS, such as the spin out of the community health services business of NHS Hull into a new social enterprise, City Health Care Partnership CIC, and the first ever project of this kind at Central Surrey Health Limited, proud to be the first Big Society Award winners. Building on this, we have supported the Coalition Government's move to mainstream this exciting concept into wider government, advising on mutualisation within local authorities and central government. Outside of the public sector, we also have market-leading experience advising on employee ownership and mutual structures within many other industry sectors, with clients ranging from financial institutions to architecture and engineering, and we are proud to advise the employee trust owned John Lewis Partnership plc.

We have a genuine long standing interest in the expansion of mutual structures and employee ownership models, shown by our extensive involvement in lobbying, seminars, workshops, support for pathfinder projects and our role, for over 20 years, as legal adviser to the Employee Ownership Association.

"We did not impose quality measures – rather Field Fisher Waterhouse worked to their internally set high standards and exceeded expectations. Outcomes were delivered to Field Fisher Waterhouse quality measures and the project timelines, enabling the project to complete on time in line with NHS requirements".  Head of Integrated GovernanceNew healthcare social enterprise.
