Retail

Our reach is truly international. Our team includes both Indian and PRC nationals. As WIPO (United Nation) experts we have advised Governments around the world on the role of brands in the economy. For example having advised the PRC Government on retail related issues we are very familiar with the complexities of this booming market. Partners in our affiliate offices (Beijing and Shanghai) have been trained by us in London through long-term secondments. We will soon be opening an office in China, meaning that we will be even better placed to help the retailers develop their business in this region.

Due to the increasing importance of the Indian market we have a dual qualified senior Indian lawyer in our London office as well as a close relationship with our local affiliate. Having advised the Indian Government on retail related matters we have a good understanding of the legal and commercial challenges facing retailers entering this rapidly growing market.

We have advised retailers, such as Hamleys, Wallis and Reiss, on their entry strategies for a large number of South East Asian countries, including Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and Hong Kong.
We have completed countless deals in Japan advising retailers such as Fortnum and Masons, H&M, Liberty’s and Molton Brown.

We are founders of a network of independent lawyers in the Middle East who specialise in retail amongst other things. We have advised retailers such as Hamleys, Bhs and H&M enter the Middle East.

Although the general flow of business is from the US to Europe, UK retailers’ traditional fear of the US market is now reducing and we have advised a number of them on their investment into the US. Several of our partners are dual qualified in the US. We have advised retailers such as Ann Summers, Body Shop and Fortnum and Masons on their US businesses.
