AE: all the world's a staging date
08 August 2012
In
brief
Compulsory pensions moved one big step closer last
month. The Department for Work and Pensions has finalised the
timetable for staging dates in new regulations. These respond to
concerns that smaller employers should be given more time to
prepare for auto-enrolment. In a separate update we also report on
employment protection measures which are now live.
In more detail
The Government has passed legislation revising the implementation
timetable for auto-enrolment to ease the regulatory burden on small
employers and give them more preparation time. We have set
out a link to these changes on the web-link below:

In addition, the new regulations create a new definition of small
employers, meaning employers with less than 50 workers as at 1
April 2012 which are part of one or more PAYE scheme in which there
are more than 50 employees at that date. A new option has been
introduced for these employers to push back their staging dates by
over two years to a different staging date.
This is the new Automatic Enrolment
logo which you will start seeing on Government publications
relating to this issue. The Government is encouraging other
organisations to use this logo.
