BPR lives and will strike soon
On 27 June 2012, the BPR was published in the Official Journal. The
BPR changes the current regulation of biocidal products in
Europe.

National restrictions for GMOs : back to square 1?
The Danish Presidency concluded it was not possible
to achieve an agreement on proposals to allow national bans on the
cultivation of EU-approved genetically modified crops.

Concerns about extra water pollution control
Member States have raised concerns over proposals to
expand the list of pesticides covered by water pollution controls.
Discussions have revealed their reluctance to take on any
additional monitoring costs in the current economic
climate.

Guidelines on parallel trade should halt ambiguity
Regulation 1107/2009 introduced harmonised rules on
parallel trade of plant protection products. A recent Commission
guidance document aims to facilitate the implementation of these
rules.
Waste/WEEE
New rules for the collection, recycling and recovery of Electrical
and Electronic Equipment
The Council recently adopted the new WEEE Directive
and hereby agrees amongst other things on the proposed amendments
in relation to the term "producer", the widening of the scope, the
increased collection targets and the cost of dealing with the
waste.

Smoother assessment of nanomaterials under REACH
In a recent workshop, ECHA shared experiences in
evaluating registration dossiers containing nanomaterials and
proposed the initiation of a working group on
nanomaterials.
