Travel & tourism
Our Travel & Tourism Group advise a broad range of
travel companies, airlines and package tour operators. We have
expertise in multi-jurisdictional cases involving Europe, South
Africa, South America, the Middle East, the US, the Caribbean and
Canada.
Our clients include trade associations, tour operators, travel
agents and suppliers of travel and tourism services, insurers of
travel companies and airlines. We also act for rail businesses,
commercial airlines and ferry operators.
We acted on behalf of The Association of British Travel Agents
on a judicial review against the Civil Aviation Authority over the
meaning of package, one of the most significant issues for the
travel industry in the past 20 years. The Court of Appeal judgment,
which found in favour of ABTA, was delivered on 17 October
2006.
The travel work we handle is a mixture of corporate, general
commercial, regulatory and contentious.
- corporate: advising
on corporate sales and acquisitions of travel companies; and joint
ventures
- general
commercial: advising on brochure content; terms and conditions;
contracts with agents and overseas suppliers; airline contracts and
promotional schemes
- regulatory:
ATOL/ABTA issues for travel companies and airlines; issues arising
from the Package Travel Regulations, including financial protection
issues
- contentious:
disputes between travel companies; acting for tour operators and
their insurers in defending customer claims; disputes between
airlines and suppliers
